Activities

In its present state of unspoilt wildness and serene beauty, it is a magical escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.

Because there are no predators in the area, you are free to walk, fish, hire a makoro (dugout canoe) and explore hidden lagoons, or just have a picnic on the banks of the river, while watching an incredibly rich variety of resident and migratory birds.

The Kafue Flats are also home to the indigenous and endangered Kafue Lechwe as well as Zebra and Sitatunga.

Arrangements can be made to meet Chief Mwanachingwala and visit his village, as well as visit a large, semi-permanent fishing village.

There are also some good shopping opportunities in Mazabuka.

A side trip to the Kafue Gorge is well worth the detour. Four-wheel drive vehicles are recommended.
